UkSATSE holds round table with users of airspace Class G of Ukraine
The meeting was attended by delegates from aviation unions and associations, airlines, flight training institutions, aerodromes and helipads, sports federations and flying clubs. Specialists of Air Navigation Services Department, UKRAEROCENTER and Regional Branches took part in the meeting on behalf of UkSATSE.

The event, which was supported by representatives of the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine and the National Bureau of Air Accidents Investigation of Ukraine, was organized for the first time in 10 years.

During this time, the environment of airspace users has changed significantly: the number of private pilot certificate holders, amateur and training flights is increasing exponentially every year, and the trend of unmanned aerial vehicles is booming. These factors require from the air navigation services provider proactive changes in interaction with airspace users and procedures to ensure safety and meet the ever-growing demand for the use of Ukrainian airspace.

Andrii YARMAK, Head of UkSATSE: “Professional dialogue of the aviation community is the key to a systematic approach to safety management and reduction of operational risks. Current challenges require development of prompt solutions for timely, professional and, most importantly, effective response to the continually increasing demand for the use of Ukrainian airspace. Feedback from our users on the whole range of air navigation services, in particular in the airspace Class G of Ukraine, is essential for us. It allows us to evaluate the quality of services provided, to forecast ways of improvement and to identify a list of topical issues”.

The following matters were discussed within the event: obtaining information on the airspace use and aeronautical information from the units of the Joint Civil-Military Air Traffic Management System of Ukraine; compliance with the procedure for the use of Ukrainian airspace, monitoring and responsibility for its violation; analysis of violations of airspace use based on the results of investigations. Particular attention was paid to the issue of entering controlled airspace and the necessity to obtain appropriate permissions.

Note: Air traffic services in airspace Class G of Ukraine are organized according to ICAO standards and recommended practices within the limits from the ground up to an altitude of 1500 m inclusive. In areas where the terrain height is 900 m and more above mean sea level (AMSL), the upper limit of airspace Class G is 600 m above the ground level. Airspace Class G does not include the following airspace elements: aerodrome traffic zones (ATZs), control zones (CTRs), terminal areas (TMAs), and regulated prohibited areas, danger areas, restricted areas and temporary reserved airspace. Only flight information service and alerting service are provided in airspace Class G. Air traffic control service is not provided in this Class of ATS airspace.
