UEFA Champions League final in Kyiv: Ukrainian air traffic controllers to train non-standard situations
Ukrainian air traffic controllers will train non-standard situations that may occur in the Ukrainian airspace because of the increase in air traffic volume during the UEFA Champions League final match in Kyiv. This became possible thanks to a new modern ATC simulator installed at the Regional Branch of Ukrainian State Air Traffic Services Enterprise (UkSATSE).

Dmytro BABEICHUK, Director of UkSATSE, made the point that the functionality and software of the new simulator is completely identical to the main Strila-Alenia ATC system used by air traffic controllers in Kyiv flight information region.

The simulator is equipped with 10 workplaces (5 sectors) for training specialists of the Area Control Centre, 2 workplaces for training Tower air traffic controllers and 10 workplaces for pseudo-pilots.

The training of UkSATSE air traffic controllers is carried out in accordance with the high standards adopted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The use of this simulator will allow training ATCo actions not only in maximum realistic conditions but also in situations that are associated with possible emergency situations: airspace restrictions, acts of unlawful interference or restrictions imposed in the airspace of other countries which may affect the work of airports in Ukraine and the situation in the Ukrainian airspace.

“I am sure that the capabilities of the new simulator will enable training and practicing ATCo actions until they become automatic in situations that may occur in the Ukrainian airspace because of the increase in air traffic volume during the UEFA Champions League in Kyiv,” Dmytro BABEICHUK said.
