UkSATSE starts to provide air navigation services in part of Slovak airspace
Today, the first flight to Uzhhorod International Airport was operated under the arrival, departure and approach procedures for instrument flight according to the Intergovernmental Agreement "On Defining the Conditions of Use of a Certain Part of the Airspace of the Slovak Republic in Connection with the Provision of Air Traffic Services with the Designation of a Ukrainian Air Navigation Service Provider at Uzhhorod International Airport".

This was made possible by the Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Slovak Republic, which was signed last September during an official visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Slovakia.

Oleksandr KUBRAKOV, Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine: "As of today, the possibility of using the Uzhhorod airport for airlines has been expanded. This is the result of Ukraine's longstanding work at the international level - and we expect it would have a positive impact on the development of air travel in the region.
We see that there is a demand for international as well as domestic flights. For example, flights on the Kyiv - Uzhhorod - Kyiv route, which was restored this summer, almost always have full passenger boarding. Following a number of positive trends, we are now actively working on the further development of the country's regional airports".

Ukraine's ability to manage air traffic in the airspace of EU member state is confirmed by the renewed certificate that UkSATSE received from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on 31 August this year, which justifies that the level of safety and quality of air navigation services that the Ukrainian provider guarantees comply with the renewed EU standards.

Andrii YARMAK, Head of UkSATSE: “Authorization for air traffic control in the part of airspace of a neighbouring EU member state requires certification in accordance with European requirements. We have received this confirmation from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), completed the implementation of technical cooperation protocols with Slovakian counterparts (both air navigation provider and military), designed and implemented new departure/arrival schemes for the airfield. This has made Uzhhorod Airport more accessible for flights, including in difficult weather conditions and at night.
We are thankful for the efficient work of the Office of the President of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Infrastructure and the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine”.

As you know, Uzhhorod International Airport is located in a mountainous area so that the threshold of runway 10 is a few hundred metres from the Ukrainian-Slovak border. The use of the airspace of a neighbouring country is a necessary condition for conducting instrument landings at this aerodrome.
