Gradual recovery: air traffic over Ukraine reached 70% of the pre-crisis level in July
The recovery of air traffic in Ukrainian airspace continues.
In July 2021, UkSATSE provided air navigation services for 26,952 flights of Ukrainian and foreign airlines performed in the airspace of Ukraine. This represents 70% of the pre-crisis volume of flights for the corresponding period in 2019. A total of 109,472 flights have been provided with air navigation services since the beginning of the year.

Several factors explain an air traffic recovery.

First of all, there is a factor of seasonal growth of demand for flights during the holiday season, which is partly stabilised by the active spread of vaccination worldwide and gradual lifting of quarantine in foreign countries, especially in Europe, which open their borders to Ukrainian tourists.

Andrii Yarmak, Head of UkSATSE: “Special attention should be paid to the dynamics of transit flights recovery. Last month, transit in the airspace under Ukraine's responsibility was only 53% of the pre-crisis level of 2019. However, there was an increase of almost 10% compared to the share of transit flights in June 2021.
The restoration of transit potential is facilitated, in particular, by a new air navigation unit rate of charge introduced by the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine for servicing part of Ukraine's High Seas airspace of the Black Sea, which came into force on June 1 this year. Daily work with airlines that fly over this part of Ukrainian airspace in the Simferopol flight information region is producing positive results - every day more companies use airspace under Ukrainian air traffic controllers' supervision.”

Ukrainian airlines in July 2021 carried out 8,953 flights (20% less than in June 2019), foreign airlines carried out 12,160 flights (49.8% less). In the combined structure of flights performed in July 2021 - 3,310 flights are domestic flights (down 4.1% compared to the corresponding period in 2019), 13,794 flights are international flights (-16.6%) and 9,848 flights are transit flights (-46.8%). Flight dynamics in Ukrainian airspace since the beginning of 2021 is following: January - 9,842 flights, February - 8,758 flights, March - 12,160 flights, April - 13,661 flights, May - 16,986 flights, June - 21,113 flights.
