| Sky over Ukraine remains open |
For the attention of media!
The airspace over the territory of Ukraine is open, with the exception of its parts that have been closed since 2014 over the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the East of the country.
No decisions have been made to close the airspace.
At the same time, Ukraine officially published aeronautical information about activation of potential danger area in the airspace over the Black Sea from 14.02 to 19.02.2022.
Therefore, starting from tomorrow, airlines are advised not to fly over this area for a certain period of time, and to plan optimal routes in advance taking into account the current situation.
It should be noted that this recommendation does not block flights in the Black and Azov Seas area in general.
The airspace over the territory of Ukraine is currently open and available for flight planning.
Safety is provided at the proper level in accordance with international norms and standards!

Given that the responsibility for air traffic services (ATS) in the airspace over the High Seas within Simferopol Flight Information Region (FIR) is delegated to Ukraine in accordance with the ICAO Council Decision of 17 February 1997, Ukraine is the only internationally recognized State that provides ATS within Simferopol FIR and publication of air navigation information regarding Ukraine.
Since the temporary occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in April 2014, the Russian Federation has unilaterally declared its intention to provide air navigation services within Simferopol FIR through illegitimate publications of air navigation information. These actions of the Russian Federation are a direct violation of the Chicago Convention and other international instruments. Ukraine and the whole world do not follow the aeronautical information publications issued by the Russian Federation.
Last week, the Russian Federation published a Notice to Pilots (NOTAM) declaring a part of the airspace over the Black Sea as a temporary danger area from 14.02 to 19.02.2022.
Should information about potentially dangerous activities for civil aviation appear, a special procedure shall be applied in accordance with international rules to ensure safety.
Pursuant to these rules, Ukraine has officially published aeronautical information regarding the activation of potential danger area in the airspace over the Black and Azov Seas and taking this information into account for flight planning in this area from 14.02 to 19.02.2022.
