Upwards of 20 thousand flight operations were provided with air navigation services during the first month of the 2020 year

In January 2020, the Ukrainian air navigation service provider (UkSATSE) handled 21,503 flights, which is 6.8% more than the same period of last year.

The UkSATSE's leader Andriy Yarmak said: “The number of flights within the airspace of Ukraine has been steadily growing to manifest positive market dynamics. We shall struggle on developing our transit potential and continue modernizing the air navigation system of Ukraine.”

Totally, the number of transit flights increased by 14.3 %, international flights – by 2.8 % and domestic flights – by 1.5 %.

In fact, 6,579 and 14,924 flights were performed by Ukrainian and international air carriers accordingly. The flight index of international airlines demonstrates an increase of 13 % compared with the same period of last year while the number of flights of Ukrainian airlines reduced by 5 % valued to January 2019.

There have been significant positive movements in overcoming the most "crisis" figures of service provision volume, which happened in January 2016. The current increase constitutes 74.5% opposite to those ones. Particularly, the transit traffic has enlarged by 81.2 %, international flights multiplied by 73.1 % and the number of domestic flights grown up by 56 %.

Despite that, the total number of flights handled in January 2020 is less by 36.6 %, compared with the analogy period of the 2013 year, which was the most successful year for UkSATSE over the entire years of its operations.

Over the past five years, the flight dynamic in Ukraine has changed significantly. After the closure of part of the airspace over the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, taking into account the territorial waters, the closure of the Joint Forces Operation zone, including the buffer zone, as well as termination of flights between Ukraine and Russia, the number of flights within the airspace of Ukraine has decreased dramatically: for the 12 months of the most critical year of 2016, this figure amounted to 214,262 flights.
