Aviation traffic in September: number of flights over Ukraine stabilised at 76% of pre-crisis level
In September 2021, UkSATSE provided air navigation services to 26,241 flights, which is 76% of the pre-crisis September 2019 volume. This level of air traffic has been maintained for two months, since August of this year.

Ukrainian airlines operated 9,614 flights in September 2021 (11.1% less than in pre-crisis September 2019), while foreign airlines operated 1,627 flights (down 29.8%).

Domestic flights account for 3,112 flights (14.5% compared to the corresponding period in 2019), international flights for 13,728 flights (-12.6%) and transit flights for 9,401 flights (-41.5%).

Andrii YARMAK, Head of UkSATSE: "The revival of traffic in the skies over Ukraine is a combination of several factors: the seasonal demand for air travel, adoption of new realities and travel rules by air passengers and the result of our systematic work with air carriers to use the transit potential of Ukrainian airspace. Positively, the number of domestic flights between Ukrainian airports in August and September was higher than in pre-Covid period. Overall air traffic trends in the European region in the second half of the year surpassed EUROCONTROL’s optimistic scenario, and the recovery dynamics in Ukraine outpaced even the region's performance. While making cautious predictions for the future, we take into account that the tourist season is coming to an end and flight dynamics are traditionally lower during the winter navigation period, however, a number of airlines have already announced extensions of charter programmes to exotic countries or stated the opening of new destinations. The vaccination campaign and the introduction of international COVID certificates have opened European borders for Ukrainians, so there is reason to believe that this low season we will pass under an optimistic scenario.”

Let us recall the dynamics of the number of flights in the airspace of Ukraine since the beginning of 2021: August – 29,048 flights, July – 26,952 flights, June – 21,113 flights, May – 16,986 flights, April – 13, 661 flights, March – 12,160 flights, February – 8,758 flights, January – 9,842 flights.
