Renewed EASA certificate – final step for UkSATSE to restore instrument flight at Uzhhorod airdrome
Andrii Yarmak, Head of Ukrainian State Air Traffic Services Enterprise: “UkSATSE is ready to provide from September 9, 2021 the declared air navigation services in accordance with the European requirements in a certain part of the airspace of the Slovak Republic in the context of the commitments stipulated by the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Slovak Republic”.

This readiness is confirmed by obtaining by UkSATSE a renewed European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certificate on August 31, 2021. The renewed EASA certificate includes, inter alia, additional services to be provided in the part of the EU member state's airspace that have been included in the EASA certificate to ensure efficient and coordinated services and to meet the needs of aircraft operators.

Andrii Yarmak, Head of UkSATSE: “From now on, UkSATSE, besides the previously declared services, is also entitled to provide airspace management on a tactical level in a certain part of the neighbouring country's airspace and to provide signals of the all-round directional radio beacon DME for non-precision instrument approach procedures at Uzhhorod aerodrome. With the implementation of these procedures, which will be provided shortly, there will be more opportunities for aircraft operators to use the airfield, reducing the impact of weather factors on flight regularity, especially during the autumn-winter period”.

The renewed EASA certificate was issued to UkSATSE upon completion of the next supervisory audit of the national air navigation service provider on August 3, 2021.

The agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Slovak Republic entered into force on June 5, 2021.

As it is known, Uzhhorod International Airport is located in a mountainous area such that the end of the runway is located several hundred meters from the Ukraine-Slovak border, and take-off and landing by instrument is only possible from the Slovak Republic, with aircraft entering the airspace of the European Union.
