More than 6 months to recover aviation

The negative impact of COVID-19 on the aviation industry worldwide is unprecedented in scale.
Aviation experts predict that this time the impact of COVID-19 will be far more serious than any other known factor in history. Therefore, the recovery of the industry is unlikely to come 6 months after the start of the fall, as it happened before after the major crises.

History shows that outbreaks of acute respiratory viral infections worldwide have a serious impact on air traffic.

A graph published by IATA shows the impact of past disease outbreaks on aviation.

In particular, an outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) or Atypical Pneumonia, in 2003; an outbreak of highly pathogenic Avian Flu H5N1 in 2005 which could be passed from birds to humans; an outbreak of a new strain of Avian Flu H7N9 in 2013; and an outbreak of Middle East Coronavirus Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) Flu in 2015. (The following regions were studied: North America, Asia Pacific, South-East Asia, China, and the Republic of Korea).

It took up to 6 months for the industry to recover in all previous cases.
