August air traffic in the Ukrainian airspace: minus 56%
The total number of flights that UkSATSE provided air navigation services in August 2020 amounts to 16,690, which is 56.3% less than in August 2019.

Ukrainian airlines operated 6,373 flights (45.5% less than last August), foreign airlines performed 10317 flights (-61.1%).

By flight type: 2,519 flights performed in August were domestic (-15.7%), 8,249 were international (-50.4%) and 5,922 were transit (-68.2%).

As far is known, Ukraine has re-imposed restrictions on border crossing for foreign nationals from 28 August to 28 September. It is not yet clear whether these restrictions are due to be continued. However, it is already obvious that the trend of gradual recovery of air traffic, which has been observed in previous months, will slow down significantly during September.

At the same time, it is worth mentioning that the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has recently called on governments around the world to look for ways of restoring the aviation industry and opening up borders that are still largely closed. As this situation significantly reduces the demand for air travel and tourism services, the mobility of the population in general and aviation deterrence has a negative impact on the global economy.

As a reminder, in July 2020 UkSATSE serviced 12,195 flights, in June – 4,584 flights. Gradual recovery of air traffic in Ukraine began with the restoration of domestic passenger air traffic on June 5 and the launch of international air traffic on June 15 this year. At the beginning of the quarantine, during last weeks of March the number of flights within Ukrainian airspace decreased by more than 96%, and 4 regional air traffic control centers of UkSATSE were included in the European list of centers with the biggest traffic fall for several weeks.
