The new wave of a pandemic is correcting the optimistic scenario of air traffic resumption
In March 2021, UkSATSE provided air navigation services to 12,160 flights, which were performed in the Ukrainian airspace under the responsibility of Ukraine. It is by 8.7% less than over the same period last year and by 43% less when compared with the before-crisis period of March 2019.

Ukrainian airlines operated 4,603 flights (this is 5.8% more than in March 2020) and foreign airlines made 7,557 flights (15.8% below March 2020 figures).

In the total amount of March flights, there was operated 1,856 domestic flights (29.6% more than in March 2020), 5,980 international flights (-10.1%) and 4,324 transit flights (-17,3%).

  Today is World Meteorological Day
Today is World Meteorological Day, another professional holiday for our enterprise, because en-route meteorological service is one of the components of air navigation service. This is very important for safety, since weather phenomena have a significant impact on take-offs and landings, at different altitudes on the route. The crew must be prepared for every weather condition - deteriorating visibility, low cloud cover, wind gusts, turbulence, thunderstorms, and icing.
UkSATSE is a certified provider of en-route meteorological services. A centralised meteorological support system for air navigation has been in operation at the enterprise since 2009. Our meteorologists work around the clock in the meteorological tracking bodies that operate in every air traffic control centre in Ukraine. And even in the period of the COVID-19 crisis they have no less work, because the accuracy and regularity of weather information must be the same whether for one flight or for hundreds of flights.

Andrii Yarmak, head of UkSATSE: The most optimistic forecasts suggest that aviation will not reach 2019 levels before 2024
The year 2020 was the most challenging year for civil aviation in modern times. Global passenger traffic fell by 66% from 1999 levels. In fact, the industry has collapsed. But mankind simply cannot abandon aviation. The main challenge in these circumstances is to preserve the industry's infrastructure, so that when the epidemic is defeated, there will be something to rebuild. Air navigation is one of important infrastructure part of aviation without which no flights are possible in principle.
Ukrainian News has talked to Andrey Yarmak, Acting Director of Ukrainian State Air Traffic Services Enterprise (UkSATSE), about how the enterprise managed to survive the crisis, future development scenarios for the company and the industry as a whole, and how to develop Ukraine's transit potential amid Russian aggression and closed zones in the Crimea and the East of the country.

Flight statistics in Ukrainian airspace in February 2021
The total number of flights performed in February 2021 within the airspace of Ukraine that UkSATSE provided for air navigation services amounts 8758 flights.
The February air traffic by flight type is structured as follows: domestic flights - 1,416 (25% less than in February 2020), international flights - 4,076 (-61.3%) and transit flights - 3,266 (-56.8%) .
Ukrainian airlines performed 2,975 flights (51.7% less than in February last year), foreign airlines performed 5,783 flights (-58.2%).
Flight statistics for the second month of this year continue to show an average rate of flight recovery among European air navigation service providers. We look forward to a revival in the rate of flight recovery starting with the summer navigation programme, which will start from 28 March 2021.

WOMEN IN AVIATION. Special project for March 8
The history of aviation has plenty of evidence to show that the industry is also a woman's domain, as are many other fields of activity that were originally considered a strictly male endeavor. Although the world is still far from perfect when it comes to gender equality but in Ukraine today no one is surprised to see a female pilot at the control stick of an aeroplane or a female air traffic controller managing the movement of planes in the sky. There are many female professionals in UkSATSE, thanks to their contribution the enterprise, and air navigation in general, have become what they are today. We would like to offer you a few stories about women in the aviation professions at our enterprise.
