Air travellers should not be treated as high-risk for coronavirus
Passengers arriving by air should not be considered as high-risk for spreading COVID-19. This is evidenced by the published Guidelines for COVID-19 Testing and Quarantine of Air Travellers developed by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

There is no need to quarantine incoming air travellers, much less to continue the restrictions on crossing borders by foreigners imposed by many governments. This idea was welcomed by the European aviation community calling on governments to immediately lift restrictions on passenger air travel. Ryanair, Europe’s largest airline, has also publicly criticized the quarantine.

It is difficult to predict whether national governments will heed the recommendations published at the request of the European Commission. Should it happens soon, many more families will be able to spend Christmas and New Year holidays together.
