| UkSATSE Seeks Modern Solutions for Introduction of Next-Generation ATM System |
 UkSATSE considers the merits of the iTEC platform developed by Spain’s Indra, one of the most powerful global manufacturers of automated equipment for air traffic management, and commissioned by several of the leading European air navigation service providers. In such a way, UkSATSE is continuing to study the latest developments that can be used to create a next-generation automated ATM system that employs a modular approach. UkSATSE aims at creating a platform that will allow it to effectively implement its own development programmes and also support the deployment of a number of global development projects. A modular approach will provide the required level of the system flexibility, which was previously impossible to achieve.
A presentation of iTEC functionalities and potential was demonstrated at the Vilnius offices of Lithuanian ANS provider Oro Navigacija. Participants of the four-party meeting also included representatives of Poland’s PANSA.
The iTEC (interoperability Through European Collaboration) specifications are defined by three ANS providers including: ENAIRE (Spain), DFS (Germany) and NATS (Great Britain) which initiated cooperation with Indra several years ago and became the founders of the new development. LVNL (the Netherlands), Avinor (Norway), Oro Navigacija (Lithuania) and PANSA (Poland) have since joined them.
The iTEC platform, being one of the options for implementing an automated ATM system, is expected to be able to unify the airspace of the whole country and create a unified air traffic management environment with the ability to organise air traffic controllers in remote locations. Such approach involves the availability of a Data Centre.
One of the main requirements for next-generation air traffic management systems is the ability to process all input data to enable airlines to plan and operate the most convenient and cost-effective routes that reduce the impact of aviation on the environment.
