Ukrainian air traffic recovery dynamics remained at the European average level in January
The total number of flights performed in January 2021 in the airspace of Ukraine, which were provided with air navigation services by UkSATSE, amounts 9,842. However, this represents a 54.2% decrease compared to the volume of flights in January last year.

The January air traffic is structured by types of flights as follows: domestic flights - 1,356 (23.9% less than in January 2020), international flights - 4,624 (-59.9%) and transit flights - 3,862 (-52.8%).
Ukrainian airlines performed 2,988 flights (54.6% less than in January last year), foreign airlines - 6,854 flights (-54.1%).

The trend in air traffic volume in Ukraine during the first month of the year has not changed significantly, but has every reason to improve as the summer navigation season approaches, which begins on 31 March.

Andrii Yarmak, Head of UkSATSE: "First of all, we are looking forward to the stabilisation of the pandemic situation in the world. Following active vaccination of citizens, governments will begin to lift restrictions on border crossings, mobility of population will rise and, as a result, demand for air travel will increase, and consequently airlines' flight schedules will start to recover. This means that our enterprise will also gradually return to normal operations. We additionally expect an active summer navigation season for Ukrainian carriers and an intensification of flights to European destinations.”

It is likely that so-called digital vaccination and tests passports will play a significant role in the recovery of air traffic. The International Air Transport Association (IATA), with the support of governments around the world, is working to develop IATA Travel Pass, a mobile application to help passengers conveniently and safely travel to meet government requirements for COVID-19 tests or vaccinations. Several countries, like Cyprus or Georgia, have already announced that restrictions on crossing their borders with a vaccination stamp would be lifted.
