Flights in Ukrainian Airspace Climb 9.7% in First Half of 2007 |
During the first six months of 2007, the Ukrainian State Air Traffic Service Enterprise (UkSATSE) provided air navigation services for almost 176 000 flights performed in the airspace it covers, which marked an increase of 9.7% over the same period of 2006.
The number of flights carried out by domestic airlines rose to 41 436 (up 9.6% on the first half of 2006), while flights by foreign airlines totaled 134 544 (up 9.8%).
According to flight type, the air traffic figures break down as follows: transit flights – 110 421 (up 8.3%); international flights (with departure/landing at Ukrainian airports) – 46 163 (up 13.6%); internal flights – 19 396 (up 9.1%).
The highest number of takeoffs and landings were carried out at the following airports: Kiev (Borispol) – 39 125 flights (a 6.2% increase); Odessa – 6 678 flights (up 11.6%); Donetsk – 5 247 flights (up 1.9%); Simferopol – 5 0454 flights (up 10.7%); Kiev (Zhulyany) – 4 796 flights (down 33.5%); Dnepropetrovsk – 4 522 flights (up 10.1%); Lvov – 4 214 flights (up 6.2%); and Kharkov – 3 232 flights (up 1.1%).
As for specific airlines, the following lead the way in terms of numbers of flights performed in Ukrainian airspace: Aerosvit Airlines (Ukraine) – 11 212 flights, Ukraine International Airlines (Ukraine) – 7 315 flights, Emirates (UAE) – 6 791 flights, Lufthansa (Germany) – 6 408 flights, Aeroflot-Russian Airlines (Russian Federation) – 5 557 flights, Austrian Airlines (Austria) – 5 163 flights, British Airways (Great Britain) – 4 628 flights, Turkish Airlines (Turkey) – 4 118 flights, Singapore Airlines (Singapore) – 3 760 flights, and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (Netherlands) – 3 546 flights.
The appeal of Ukrainian airspace is determined above all by the proper level of flight safety and high quality of air navigation services provided. And as the figures indicate, international air carriers are choosing Ukrainian airspace more and more often. UkSATSE is constantly working to further modernise the national air navigation system, to upgrade the quality of services and level of technical equipment, and to perfect the airspace structure and develop transnational corridors so that all users’ requirements are met. Thus, in June this year, UkSATSE opened two brand new Air Traffic Control Centres in Dnepropetrovsk and Simferopol.
Reference. The Ukrainian State Air Traffic Service Enterprise (UkSATSE) was established in 1992. Its Director General is Yuriy Cherednichenko. UkSATSE is the basis of the national Air Navigation System and provides the full range of air navigation services: Air Traffic Service, Air Traffic Flow Management, Airspace Management, provision of radio communication, navigation and surveillance as well as aeronautical and meteorological information for flight operations of all types. UkSATSE oversees five Flight Information Regions with a total area of 774 569 square kilometres. The total length of international routes in Ukrainian airspace is six times greater than ten years ago and now extends to 47 145 kilometres. |
